The F3 Nation GrowRuck

What, you ask, is GrowRuck?

It’s simple: GrowSchool + GORUCK Tough challenge. In one weekend, you’ll get, 1stF + CSAUP + 2ndF + F3 Leadership Development & Training.

We rolled out GrowSchool in November 2016  as an offering for F3’s “Nomads” – workout locations that are on their way to becoming Regions and can use a little support and encouragement along the way.

After teaching through a couple of GrowSchools, we started to realize how important CSAUP events are to building 2ndF and the overall momentum toward a region. And no CSAUP event that we’ve ever seen has the same catalytic effect on 2ndF and F3 growth as F3 guys getting together to do a GORUCK Tough challenge.

So, we thought, why not combine the two?

GrowRuck will be led by a GORUCK Cadre and will be in all ways an official GORUCK Tough challenge, but the GrowRuck Cadre will tailor activities and the teaching to reinforce the GrowSchool curriculum and lessons. Dredd and Slaughter will participate in the challenge alongside the rest of the pax.

Over the last several years, almost 600 men complete the GrowRuck in Jacksonville, Eastern North Carolina, New Orleans, Seattle, Chattanooga, Texas, Columbia, Toledo, Memphis, and Richmond.

T-Shirts

A GrowRuck T-Shirt will be included with your registration as long as we have at least 60 participants.

Gear

The most frequent question asked when an F3 group begins to look into doing the Challenge is “do I need to buy a $300 backpack”. The short answer is no. A GORUCK ruck is not required, but GORUCK Rucks last — FYI: the Rucker model ($265) goes on sale from time-to-time & the F3 Ruck Club will have discounts that may work for the Rucker, depending on the month. Contact Winnebago @F3NationRuck at the end of the Pre-Blast. The 511 Rush 12 is a $99 version that some guys use. The 511 Rush 24 is slightly larger and slightly more expensive. Also, many guys pick up second-hand rucks at Army surplus stores, eBay, or Craigslist.

Another option is to Tweet with the hashtag #LendARuck and tag the @F3GrowRuck account in your tweet asking for a ruck, and someone from the F3Nation will answer the call (kinda like the Bat Signal) and ship you his ruck to use. In return, you’ll wash it and send it back to him with a sweet F3 Lend-A-Ruck patch.

Besides a ruck, you’ll need some bricks or a plate for weight, a headlamp, reflective PT belt, and a hydration bladder. See the official GORUCK Tough packing list or Ruck.Beer Packing list for all the required gear.

Lodging

Celebration Campus at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in downtown Naperville will be home base for this weekend and has lots of space for guys to rest Friday evening. We’ll have the space for rest if Pax bring some sleeping gear (sleeping bag, cot, pillow, etc), as well as showers for use.

We also have a block of rooms available at the nearby Fairfield Inn & Suites (1847 W Diehl Rd, Naperville, IL 60563). Rooms are double occupancy (2 double beds) for a rate of $72+tax/night.

Next Steps

  1. Pay  your $75 deposit or $150 full registration at  https://f3nation.com/shop/
  2. Join the Facebook group so the Cadre can communicate with us and Slack for all the mumble chatter
  3. Find a ruck, put some bricks in it, and ruck on.

Dan DeBoo

Why can’t you explain in plain English what this event is and what the objective is. You use too much of your vernacular gibberish.

f3bono

Dan – Feel free to email me at [email protected]. Part of the F3 culture is our “lexicon” vocabulary. A shared, clear vocabulary is part of how we accomplish our mission of invigorating male community leadership AND it can be confusing at the beginning. I will be your translator, my friend.

Nate Robinson

To Dan’s point, is there a “lexicon” vocabulary info sheet available somewhere on f3nation.com so newcomers can learn this shared, clear vocabulary? I get the idea to be different, but I’m not convinced there’s much of a correlation or translation in your mission of invigorating male community leadership by talking with new ‘modern day’ lingo. I’ll check out a local F3 group to find out for myself. Thanks!

f3bono

Nate – We do have a lexicon to clarify the language of F3. https://f3nation.com/lexicon/ We have found that a shared language helps us to communicate clearly and efficiently. The downside is that it takes time to learn what some terms mean as a new guy.
