Let’s say there are a thousand important Things. There’s probably more, but there have to be at least a thousand. That’s a safe round number. All of these Things are important to me, but I don’t have the time, skill or inclination to have much more than a passing guilt-laden relationship with the overwhelming majority of them. In fact, of the 1k universe of Things, I’m only an expert in (maybe) three. Those three Things are wheelhouse for me. If you need help there, I’m your man.
Music is on my list of Things, but not in my wheelhouse. I don’t have time for it. There have been years in my life where I haven’t listened to much music because I was tired of what I had been listening to and didn’t know what to listen to next. That used to be a problem for me, but not anymore, because I’ve Sidesourced music to @SweeperBoy. Every year he tells me what to listen to. Once he and I drove from Raleigh to Charlotte together and he played 14 seconds of 397 songs for me, just to teach me about percussion. I guess I could reinvent the music wheel, but why should I?
Here are some other Wheels I Sidesource rather than reinvent:
- Apps to @Sleuth
- Gear to @OBT
- Global warming to @BKStarz
- Beer to @Puppet
- Workout physiology to @Byron
- Nutrition to @TigerRag
- Flowers to @Algernon
Sometimes I tell I guy that he’s got the Wheel on something and he says “really?” Maybe it’s false modesty, or maybe a man can have a Wheel and not know it (or won’t admit it). Do you know anybody like that?
