Welcome to the new site!

Here it is, F3 Nation.  We’ve learned over the months that this site is a crucial gathering place for the Faithful, and you also gave us a ton of great feedback on what you did and did not want in a site through the survey we did over the winter.

That’s all gone into this new site.  I’ll just take a minute or two to call a few things about it to your attention:

  1. The new site is designed to make it easier to find the things you’re looking for, particularly BackBlasts and Butcher’s Word entries.  There’s more front-page space to display the latest content, and easier ways (through the right-sidebar navigation options) to get to the specific material you’re looking for, whether it’s a region, a specific workout, a specific blog topic or F3 TV content.
  2. On the back end of the site, we’ve tried to simplify posting procedures for Qs; new forms for creating BackBlasts will ensure uniformity of titles and an “at a glance” summary of the workout at the top of each BackBlast.  We’ll be sending out an overview of how to post BackBlasts to the new site — it isn’t too different from the old posting mechanism, but there are a few tweaks.
  3. We’ve also added Forums, where all registered users can create new topics and converse away.  This will be the place to raise and discuss non-F3 topics, like letting folks know you have a beach house available for rent, or rallying support for your neighborhood 5K, etc.  Sweeper Boy will be posting some broad guidelines regarding appropriate topics, etc.  We’re working right now to get everyon on Purple Crayon’s master F3 email list registered to post in the forums, so if you don’t think PC has your info, please email it to him ASAP at purplecrayon@f3nation.com.
  4. I’ll also make a plea for patience.  We’ve been able to bring over all the existing BackBlasts and blog posts from the old site, but embedded images generally did not make it through the export/import process.  As a whole, the new site is likely to have some kinks and bugs that will take a little while to iron out, and there are some features that are likely to be ongoing projects.  If you notice something that doesn’t seem right or have an idea for how something can be improved, please email your IT committee (trwhitmire@gmail.comap@f3nation.com andcharles.r.price@bankofamerica.com) and we’ll look into it and try to fix it.
Finally, none of this would have been possible without the above-and-beyond efforts of Jason “American Pie” Silverstein, who basically took all the ideas and concepts that we were kicking around for a new site, threw the project on his shoulder like a Spartan race sandbag and carried it up the hill and across the finish line.  In the best F3 tradition, he recognized that we needed to get off the present site, saw a way to get it done and grabbed the wheel to ensure that it was done right.

Thanks,
OBT, American Pie and Sweeper Boy

    Other quick hits:

    1. All v1.0 backblasts are in “Backblasts” section, but a few have been appropriately tagged or categorized so you get the feel of what those sections will look like going forward.

    2. The site works in mobile. And you can save to your home screen.

I will monitor this post as best I can as well.

Also added this in case there are questions about access and how to comment, reply, etc.:

Tclaps for a quick evolution to 2.0. Looking forward to perusing the site and the enriched functionality. Enjoying what I’m seeing thus far.
