F3/DiamondHead-BackBlast.1/23/12 – The Meat Sweats

9 men gathered in the Gloom by the virtual shovel flag to make a down painment on the day… by the end their pockets were empty.

The Pax:

Hawaii 5-0 (QIC)

Boone (War Baby)

Tango Delta (QIC)

Byron (Inventor of the Thorasic Spine)

Nutt

The Colonel (BHWTU)

Spooky John

Waco

and…

Purple Crayon…in the House of Rock. (FNG / WarDaddy)

The Thang:

- 300 in 30 minutes

- 10 push-ups and 10 KB swings every minute for 30 minutes, ended with a set of 15 each, but 300 in 300 is too catchy so I am sticking with it.

- The Gravedigger Relays

            – a good ole fashioned truck push. 2x partner push up the AG parking lot hill, split between each of the groups of 2; 1x total team speed push alternating groups of two in to get the truck to the top of hill as fast as possible

            – while the teams of two pushed, the rest of the pax did lunges up the hill until their turn.

- Poetic Balance

            – cool down stretching from Byron

The Naked Moleskine:

_ Gloom (noun) The murky pre-dawn atmosphere in which the Faithful gather around the ShovelFlag.  Also, the O-2 the Faithful suck in during the workout. Also, today’s conditions. T-claps to all of Faithful who posted this rainy Monday morning to get their week started off right.

_ The Meat Sweats – an 80’s hair metal band or the physical condition brought on by consuming too much red meat in one sitting (e.g. Chima, Brazo’s, Beef n Bottle is more my speed…)? I think it’s both, but I am referring to the latter, and so was Tango when he brought them up mid-KB swing… in addition to a lot of laughter, something else slipped from the F3er directly to my left… he shall remain un-named, but it has been noted

_ The Master of Puppets wears Argyle? – the Faithful moshed through the first 30 minutes of DH this morning courtesy of TD’s truck radio. He came strong out of the gates with Metallica classic Master of Puppets, which depending on your vintage either evokes a strong memory of the kidnapping scene in Old School or your first heavy metal concert…. According to TD his first heavy metal concert was made more memorable by the fact he attended in an argyle sweater-vest… (erroneous…this is erroneous! – TD)

_ Headbanger’s Ball – The Diamond Head is now amped up and the playlist would even make ol’ Lemmy smile. I am pretty sure that we will soon push the noise ordinance for John down on the corner.

_ More than Meets the Eye – while 10 push-ups and KB swings per minute doesn’t sound like a lot, I am proud to say there was a lot of grunting, and even some un-layering, as the cumulative impact set in. I can only hope that some of the Pax are operating their keyboards with their mouths and a pen this afternoon…

_ Old Reliable – the truck push was classic, and tough. When I jumped off from my first push, and then tried to resume lunges, I nearly didn’t get back up. I get the sense I am going to be feeling that for days…

_ Silent but Deadly – Waco has been to every DH since inception. He shows up, does his work without a lot of chatter, then disappears into the gloom without seeming too phased… I think he may have found his wheelhouse @ DH.

_ Pop and Lock – as part of our cool-down, Byron lead us through some movements to help unlock our spines and upper-backs by doing some Thorasic Spine movements… The guy’s movements are totally fluid, and I am fairly sure he is an X-Men team member. While Byron looks like he could be a back-up dancer for Usher, I looked like Mark Madsen at the Lakers Championship celebration and the rest of these guys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpbXl5Sp-Wc

_ Cherry…Tclaps to Hawaii 5-0 for a strong first lead. Nice work, big man. (TD)

“Genius begins great works; labor alone finishes them.”

  1. Purple Crayon

I thought being Wardaddy and an FNG would have made me more memorable. The workout was simple as getting hit by a truck.

    • Tango Delta

PC…how did we miss PC?!? Problem solved. My apologies, buddy. Thanks for piping up.

  2. Tango Delta

First metal concert was RATT with Poison as opening band in 1987. I still have all four of Poison’s autographs on a piece of notebook paper. My self-torn jeans and checkerboarded Vans high tops were in full effect.

  3. Sorry I missed it this morning…looks like a good beatdown and Master of Puppets is top 10 all time for me.

First metal concert for me was Alice Cooper with Great White as the opener back in ’88 in Copenhagen. The Danes love some metal.
